    This eye-catching nebula is located right next to Alnitak, the easternmost star of Orion's Belt, and is about 1,500 lightyears away. The Horsehead Nebula is a column of dust obscuring the red-light-emitting hydrogen gas behind it. It’s part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, a star-forming region in the constellation Orion, the Hunter. Imaged from my Berkeley, CA area backyard in December 2020 with my Celestron 8” Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector, ZWO ASI1600MM Pro monochrome camera, Astronomik CLS-CCD light pollution filter and colour filters, and Chroma hydrogen-alpha filter. 18 hours of exposure time, processed in PixInsight.
