Hua Shan, or Mount Hua, is one of China’s most famous and sacred mountains, located near Huayin City in Shaanxi Province. It is renowned for its dramatic cliffs, steep paths, and breathtaking views, earning it a reputation as one of the “Five Great Mountains” of China. The mountain has five main peaks: North, South, East, West, and the highest, the South Peak, which rises to 2,154 metres (7,070 feet). Pilgrims and hikers have visited Hua Shan for centuries, attracted both by its natural beauty and its Taoist temples perched along precipitous cliffs. Hua Shan is famous for its daring hiking trails, including narrow ridges and the infamous “Plank Walk in the Sky”, where hikers traverse wooden planks attached to cliff faces. Beyond the adrenaline-inducing paths, the mountain is dotted with ancient pavilions, shrines, and inscriptions, blending spiritual heritage with dramatic natural scenery.
