In the early 1800s, Ireland was a nation marked by significant political and social turmoil, stemming from its complex relationship with Britain. The Act of Union in 1800, which merged the Kingdom of Ireland with the Kingdom of Great Britain to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, played a pivotal role in shaping the country's trajectory. The Irish Parliament was dissolved, and Irish MPs were integrated into the British Parliament in Westminster, resulting in the erosion of Irish self-governance. The Protestant Ascendancy, a minority Anglo-Irish elite, continued to dominate Irish society, perpetuating inequalities, discrimination, and religious tensions with the Catholic majority. During this period, Ireland faced profound socio-economic challenges.
