James Reese Europe Magnet
A 19th and 20th century African-American composer, ragtime and early jazz bandleader, and arranger, born in Mobile Alabama. In 1910 he organised the Clef Club, an organisation of the Black American music industry. During world war 1 he obtained a commission in the New York Army National Guard. He was stabbed and killed by one of his drummers.
