Japanese Rat Snake live in Japan and Kunashiri (Kurile Islands group, Russia). In Japanese it is known as the aodaishō or "blue general". It is a non-venomous snake. They are beautiful and easy kept snakes, but these snakes are little nervous animals. The colour is variable, from pale yellow-green to dark blue-green. High number of albino Japanese rat snakes (Elaphe climacophora) has existed for many years in the city of Iwakuni, Japan, and are designated as protected species. The Japanese Rat Snake (Elaphe climacophora) is a medium sized snake, reaching an adult length of 5 ft. They are semi-arboreal and can become docile and calm. Japanese rat snakes eat a variety of small animals: rodents, frogs or lizards. They were favoured by farmers as effective rat control. It is hunted by Eagles and Racoon Dogs.
