Joan of Arc (by John Everett Millais) Tissue Paper
This design features a painting by the English artist Sir John Everett Millais, who was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. It is a powerful and introspective portrayal of the French heroine, capturing her in a moment of profound spiritual connection. Painted in 1865, this work exemplifies Millais' Pre-Raphaelite dedication to detail, historical accuracy and emotional depth. Joan of Arc is depicted kneeling indoors in a wood-panelled room; she is dressed in a full suit of armour. The setting is simple, focusing all attention on Joan herself. The armour, rendered with meticulous precision, gleams with a metallic sheen, highlighting Millais' skill in capturing the texture and weight of the material. This contrasts with Joan's youthful, serene face, which is softly lit, emphasising her inner purity and devotion. Joan's posture is one of humility, submission, religiosity and prayerfulness; she kneels on a stone floor, her hands clasped around the hilt of a sword that she holds upright before her. The sword, a symbol of her divine mission and martial role, is central to the composition. Joan's gaze is directed upward, her eyes filled with a mixture of determination and spiritual fervour, as if she is receiving guidance from God in the heavens above. The painting's colour palette is subdued, with muted tones that enhance the solemnity of the scene. The dark background serves to draw the viewer's focus entirely onto Joan, creating an intimate, almost sacred atmosphere. The play of light and shadow across her armour and face adds depth and dimension to the work, making Joan appear both physically grounded and spiritually elevated. Millais' depiction of Joan of Arc is both a tribute to her historical significance and a meditation on the themes of faith, duty and divine inspiration. The painting resonates with a sense of quiet strength and unwavering resolve, portraying Joan not just as a warrior, but as a young woman deeply connected to her spiritual calling. Through this painting, Millais has captured the very essence of Joan's character: her courage, her piety and her readiness to fulfil her God-given mission.

Custom Tissue Paper - 15 gsm (10lb), Size: 25.4 cm x 35.56 cm (10" x 14")
The application of this decoupage paper was very simple , applied with PVA glue on a plywood surface. The colour stayed true to paper before application . I used cling film to apply over ply wood , no wrinkles , very pleased with the result.

I knew this would be stunning but it's even better than I expected! Really happy with my design and chuffed I picked this one.
Be prepared to wait though if you choose the slowest delivery, took 3 weeks to come, but arrived within stated timeframe. Perfect imagery, colour and print, so easy to use the offcuts for spare bits...I only planned on doing the two back panels of my tv unit but ended up doing three other gaps!
