About This Design

John Millais-Refusal of shelter by a Huguenot

John Millais-Refusal of shelter by a Huguenot

This Romanticism history titled, A Huguenot, on St. Bartholomew's Day, Refusing to Shield Himself from Danger by Wearing the Roman Catholic Badge  is made by the famous painter, John Everett Millais using oil on canvas in 1852. Millais's Christ In The House Of His Parents was highly controversial because of its realistic portrayal of a working class Holy Family labouring in a messy carpentry workshop. Later works were also controversial, though less so.

The story of the painting is beautiful. At first it looks like lovers embracing, but the white hankerchief was used by Huguenots to escape Paris during the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. The girl is trying to save her lover by tying it on him, but he is refusing to surrender his beliefs. I used it to decorate my room and I love it! Zazzle always does a great job printing on quality paper! Worth the money!

Looked great and was perfect for my Nana's 99th it arrived super quick so much quicker than sending the original from the other side of the world! My Nan loved my artwork too and the picture of us inside helped her remember who I was as she has Alzheimer's. Crisp and clear. Bright and colorful true to the original artwork I created. The photo we placed inside also looked great and clear.
