Joseph Sherrick House Antietam Wrapped Canvas

This 24" x 16" wrapped canvas art features an image of a historic home in Sharpsburg, Maryland, that belonged to Joseph & Sara Sherrick in 1862, until America's Civil War came to town. Realising their home stood between the approaching front lines, they fled. Soldiers from both Armies swept across this property during the Battle of Antietam. The Sherrick's house and barn were then used as field hospitals. (Their yard and orchard were littered with bodies and their crops were destroyed, but the $3,000 in gold that Joseph hid in a stone wall on the property before he and Sarah fled the farm was still there when they returned after the War.)
