Kate Bunce Melody / Musica 1895-1897 Greeting Card

Greeting card inspired by the painting Melody (1895-1897), or Musica, by Kate Bunce. The picture shows a young woman playing a lute, the model may have been the artist's sister Myra. The woman is facing an open window, visible in the mirror behind her. You can also see a crucifix and a stained glass image of the Virgin in the mirror, suggesting that the lute player is performing inside a small chapel. On the right side of the painting is an ornate vase, overflowing with apple blossoms. The picture has a solemn atmosphere, but is also very decorative, full of luxurious colours, details and textures. Kate Elizabeth Bunce (1856 – 1927) was an English painter and poet associated with the Arts and Crafts movement. Digital restoration in April 2021: Image cleaned.
