The ruins of Kendal Castle sit on a hill on the outskirts of the ancient town of Kendal in the beautiful lake district. Probably dating from the 12th century, Kendal Castle was the seat of the local barons, the most notable of whom were the Parrs, as Katherine Parr was the famous sixth wife of King Henry VIII. The walk up the hill to the medieval ruins is well worth it as, as well as exploring the castle, there are wonderful views over the town and the Lake District fells.
