Kylemore Abbey is a magnificent Benedictine monastery situated on the edge of Pollacappul Lough in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland. Originally built in the 1860s as a romantic castle by Mitchell Henry for his wife Margaret, its impressive granite and limestone structure is mirrored in the tranquil lake waters, all set against the rugged backdrop of the Twelve Bens mountains. After suffering tragedy, it was later purchased by Benedictine nuns fleeing Belgium during WWI, becoming a school for over a century and now a stunning place for visitors to explore its beautiful Victorian walled gardens, Gothic Chapel, and restored abbey rooms.
