La Pasionaria Postcard
This striking cpostcard design features a photograph of a sculpture of the revolutionary freedom fighter Dolores Ibarruri, the Spanish Civil War heroine known as `La Pasionaria' (The Passion Flower). Made of fibre glass, the statue stands on the banks of the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, and pays tribute to La Passionaria and to the 2,100 British volunteers who went to war against fascism in the 1930s. Of the 534 of the volunteers who were were killed, 65 of them were from Glasgow. The postcard features her famous quote "Better to die on your feet than live for ever on your knees." The sculpture is by Arthur Dooley of Liverpool (1929 -1994).
