Ebenso wie der Neufundländer und der Landseer stammt der Labrador von der kanadischen Ostküste aus der Gegend von Neufundland. Im Gegensatz zum Neufundländer hatte dieser viel leichtere Hund eher die Aufgabe, bei der Jagd zu helfen oder abgetriebene Fische und Fischernetze aus dem Meer zu holen. Fischer brachten ihn im 19. Jahrhundert nach Großbritannien, wo er, von seinem Herkunftsort her, den Namen Labrador bekam. In die Zuchtlinien wurde zur weiteren Ausprägung des Jagdtriebes der Pointer in die Linien eingebracht. Retriever bedeutet Apportierer. Ein Retriever, also ein Apportierhund, sollte ein "weiches Maul" haben, das heißt, dass er die Beute ohne Beschädigung zum Hundeführer bringt.

Looked great and was perfect for my Nana's 99th it arrived super quick so much quicker than sending the original from the other side of the world!
