Le Chat Noir Black Cat Kitchen Towel

This tea towel for cat lovers and fans of vintage cat art features one of the most famous black cats in the art world. The black cat with the brilliant yellow eyes is from the iconic Tournee du Chat Noir poster by Swiss-born French Art Nouveau painter Theophile Alexandre Steinlen. Steinlen created the poster advertising a tour of Le Chat Noir cabaret artists in 1897 for his friend and owner of the nightclub, Rudolphe Salis. Paying homage to the real star of the poster, I’ve replicated the illustration of the cat minus the distraction of the wording, adding a colourful striped halo to the cat’s head so that he almost looks lit from within.
