Letting Go Sleepless under a foreign sky, Not knowing, or really caring why - I wandered in the morning light, While the day was slowly waking up the night. I saw a field, long and wide- One lone tree grew, on the other side... A misshapen tree, twisted and bare, ‘Twas odd to see, I had to stare... I approached it, sunshine began to spill gently, over the grassy hill As I grew nearer, nearer grew the light I stood stone still, and drew my breath with fright. , In it’s younger days it had been bound With chains that were still tight around, A revelation...I realised... This old tree had compromised. It struck me, like a bolt out of the blue Suddenly, I knew what I must do. I had blamed others, for my strife, When it was me ...wasting my own life. I had wandered the earth and sailed the sea, Intent on revenge, I forgot about me ! Chains were binding my own soul, Erasing the past had been my goal... Past scars would never disappear These chains would always, always be here! Around them is the only way to grow, At last the time had come, for letting go. that same day, I headed home, I no longer wanted to travel alone- I was welcomed, just like the prodigal son, Just like that... healing had begun. Near the gates of home there grew a tree I Bound it with chains, as tight as could be- So that I could watch it grow, And always remember the power...of letting go.
