Albert Bierstadt was a 19th century German American painter best known for his lavish, sweeping landscapes of the American West. He was the 2nd generation of the Hudson River School, their style based on exquisite details and almost glowing lighting known as luminism. Bierstadt was the foremost painter of this for the remainder of the 19th century.
