This dramatic geological feature is famous for its treacherous currents, which historically caused numerous shipping accidents, and the enduring 19th-century legend of Lorelei—a beautiful maiden who sat atop the rock, combing her golden hair and singing a melody so enchanting that it distracted sailors, luring them to shipwreck on the reefs below.
