Luxor Temple Egypt Postcard

Luxor Temple, a vast Ancient Egyptian temple complex, stands on the east bank of the Nile River in the city known today as Luxor. Founded around 1400 BCE, it was dedicated to the Theban Triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu and was a key focus during the annual Opet Festival. The temple, built primarily by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, is famous for its grand pylon, seated colossal statues of Ramesses II, and a single remaining pink granite obelisk, the other now standing in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Visitors walk through massive courtyards, a colonnade of papyrus-bundle columns, and inner sanctuaries that reflect centuries of religious and political changes, including additions from the Roman and Islamic periods. The temple remains remarkably well-preserved and integrated into the modern city, with the Avenue of Sphinxes once connecting it to the Temple of Karnak, now a partially restored pathway for modern-day explorers to connect with Egypt's pharaonic past.
