Machinist - It's milling time 1889 Large Clock

Colourized photo from 1889 Original title: Interior of Gallery of Machines, Paris Exposition Photographer: Unknown Location: Grenelle District, Paris, France Imagine how exciting it is, to be the first ones to see the latest in technology. Machines that can cut metal, drills, huge lathes and what have you. This marvellous display of technology is the Paris exposition of 1889, a World Fair. It was built for the Universal Exposition in Grenelle District, Paris, France, right in front of the recently built Eiffel tower. It was a huge set of buildings, steel, iron and glass, 1378ft long by 377ft wide and 158ft tall. Big enough to store 15,000 horses, with a similar amount of riders on the second floor. No one actually tested this idea though. This building doesn't exist today, it blocked the view of buildings, and it was removed in 1910. See those triangular trusses? Those are a part of a rail system that allowed a tram to roll on. People would climb up a tower and get on it, they would then get to see everything from above. By the fact that this has all its belts attached, I would assume everything moved and were fully functional. This particular part showed off the many milling machines and other apparatus. If it was big and heavy, it was probably in this area. Each machine had its own use, and people could walk up and down the isles, seeing most of them function. See those triangular trusses? Those supported a rail system that allowed a tram to roll back and forth over each exhibit. It must have been a true wonder to see all of that, wish I was there.
