Mahabodhi Temple Bodhgaya India Postcard
This postcard features the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, India. It is frequented by followers of Buddhism from world over, especially from Southeast Asia. This is because Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree here. of the oldest brick temples in India, it has a classical Indian architectural style with motifs and layers.
The present temple dates from the 7th Century and later, and was built on the site of a previous temple erected by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BC. It is built in front of the Bodhi Tree, the tree under which the Buddha obtained enlightenment, surrounded by a quadrangular stone railing. The Mahabodhi temple was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002.
