The Child's Bath (Le Bain de l'enfant), painted by Mary Cassatt in France in 1893, shows a woman washing a child's feet in a basin, their close pose emphasising the bond between caregiver and child. The elevated viewpoint, flattened space, bold patterns and decorative colour reflect Cassatt's study of Japanese prints. This Impressionist oil on canvas is held by the Art Institute of Chicago.
