Mediaeval Russian Bogatyr Ping Pong Paddle
A depiction of a battle between a Russian bogatyr and an Asiatic warrior, both on horseback. Cyrillic (Russian) text reading "Богатырь"(Bogatyr) also appears. Bogatyri are heroic characters found in mediaeval Slavic epics. They are akin to the knights-errant of Western literature. Most of the stories about bogatyri revolve around the court of Vladimir I of Kiev (958–1015). Some bogatyri are presumed to be historical figures. Bogatyri protected Russian land and people against invaders, especially Tatars. Some were attributed powers and strength which were almost divine. This image is adapted from a black and white line drawing illustration in "Повесть о славных богатырях, златом граде Киеве и великой напасти на землю Русскую" (A Tale of Glorious Heroes From the Golden City Kiev and the Great Scourging of the Russian Land) by Tamara Likhiotal; published in the USSR in 1974.

Overall, it's a nice product but for what you pay the quality isn't very good. The way it's glued together, as you can see in the pictures, is messy, the glue is visible and shiny, there's some ink staining that looks like black fluff but isn't, it won't come off. On the paddle's black surface there are also little white marks here and there. It's not too easy to show in the pictures because of the flash but I tried to showcase the little white blemishes that ruin a smooth black surface. This was meant to be a gift and it just looks sloppily put together unfortunately. A few imperfections that mar what could have been really great. The printing was neat.

Quality of paddle is ok I think and the writing is legible. The colour was meant to be light blue stripe with name in middle (first image) and it's come dark blue so merges with the black background (first image) unfortunately.
