Memorial to Ivan Ayers Westerfield (1920-1941) ... He was my grandfather's younger brother ... my father's uncle ... who died at Pearl Harbour on the Arizona. My grandfather's and Ivan's great grandmother Amy Westerfield's maiden name was Ayers ... she descended from the Mayflower Pilgrims John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. The Pilgrims arrived in America in 1620.
So Ivan Ayers Westerfield was born 300 years after the arrival of his ancestors on the ship Mayflower. He died in 1941 on the ship Arizona. He was one of America's earliest casualties of World War II.
