Colourized by Mark Edward Westerfield 2024 At my age 71 1/2. Michelangelo TONDO PITTI 1503 - 1504 at his age about 28 - 29. Unfinished Sculpture by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (Lived 6 March 1475 – 18 February 1564) Madonna and Child with St John the Baptist. When Mary is shown holding a book while holding baby Jesus this means that she is holding the Old Testament Prophecy that Jesus will be the Saviour of the World ... the prophecy in Isaiah 53 of Christ's future sacrifice and His taking unto Himself the evil of the World. When St John the Baptist is shown with them we are reminded that he said of Jesus: Ecce Agnus Dei ... Behold the Lamb of God Meaning Christ will be sacrificed. Tondo means circle.
