Mine Shaft Hoist Communication Chart
In 1972, 91 miners lost their lives in a disastrous fire at Sunshine Silver Mine in northern Idaho State. This chart is a remnant of the Jewell Shaft Hoist Signals. Miners were directed to the shaft as their best way up and out. Some miners got out by the shaft, but the Shaft Hoistman perished from smoke and carbon monoxide and stranded miners to their fate.
