Mountain Lake, Pine Tree Forest Poster

It's very rare to come upon an area in nature where a scenic photograph should be taken in portrait format. The tendency is to go landscape and include as much scenery as possible. However, sometimes a scene demands a change in perspective like this one (from Serene Lakes, CA). My main goal here was to show this lake in a different light, almost as an overflown river or creek. You'll notice off to the left is a tiny island of pine trees and to the right is the shore. Had I photographed this in landscape format you'd see the island for what it was and the lake would take on a totally different shape. The lake or lakes in question rest on the summit of the Sierra Nevada Mountains just behind Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. I shot in this area for a week and came back with several images I've posted as prints. Check out the Black and White version below.
