Oregon Roosevelt elk, what incredible voices they own. No lullaby material, he's looking for a lady and his "wingman" will help. Or fight him for her. The Wilson River band ghosts through the night and early morning hours into backyards and out onto the highway. They forage for ivy and banana peels, petunias as well as blackberry vines. Meeting up with them at midnight on a frozen, snowy highway, is a memorable adventure. None of us got hurt, but I often wonder how we all escaped.
