Muscular Pump (heart) drawing by Brian Benson. This was drawn on a postcard, using a glass dip-nib pen and sepia ink, c2005. The somewhat cynical title was something I wrote under the original drawing; evidently I was ruminating on the dissonance between the heart taken as a symbol of romantic love and the heart as a bodily organ with a purely biological function. However, this contrast is rather undermined by the decorative aspects of the drawing. This version of the image is without the speckles that surrounded the heart; the original drawing also had the title written below it.
