Nantes is a town in the west of France, located south of the Massif Armoricain, which stretches on the banks of the Loire, 31 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Head of the department of the Loire-Atlantique, and prefecture of the Pays de la Loire region, in 2019 it is the sixth most populated municipality in France with its 318,808 inhabitants, and the first in the west in number of inhabitants. Nantes is also the central element of Nantes Métropole, populated by 656,275 inhabitants in 2018, within the sixth urban unit (622,693 inhabitants) and the seventh attraction of France, with 1,011,020 inhabitants as of January 1, 2019.
