Narikala Fortress Georgia Postcard

Perched atop a steep hill overlooking the Mtkvari River and the colourful Old Town, Narikala Fortress is the soul of Tbilisi. Originally established in the 4th century as Shuris-tsikhe, the citadel has been expanded by various empires, including the Umayyads, Mongols, and Persians, resulting in a fascinating architectural palimpsest. Within its weathered stone walls sits the restored St. Nicholas Church, a symbol of the enduring Georgian Orthodox faith amidst the fortress's rugged, ancient ruins. The site offers the most iconic panoramic views of the Georgian capital, connecting the historic sulphur baths of Abanotubani with the modern skyline.
