National Monument (Monas) Indonesia Magnet

The National Monument, or Monas, is an iconic 132-metre tall obelisk located in the centre of Merdeka Square in Jakarta. It symbolises the Indonesian struggle for independence and was commissioned by President Sukarno. The top is a bronze flame covered in gold leaf, which glows dramatically. Construction began in 1961 and it was opened to the public in 1975. The monument houses a National History Museum in its base, which depicts Indonesia's journey towards freedom, and an observation deck that offers panoramic views of the city. Set within a large urban park, Monas is a central landmark and a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
