NATIONALE VOLKSARMEE T-Shirt

The National People’s Army (German: Nationale Volksarmee or NVA) was the military of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). Since East Germany was at the frontline of the Cold War, the GDR's military was considered to be the most advanced in the whole Warsaw Pact, excluding the Soviet Union. It was battle ready at all times, ready to be mobilised in a future war with NATO. The NVA was established in 1956 and disestablished in 1990. There were frequent reports of East German advisors with Communist African countries during the Cold War. However, the only combat the force saw was against airspace incursions, though intervention with the Soviet Armed Forces against the Czech interim government during the Prague Spring of 1968 was cancelled at the last minute.
