Neck Tie - 'Surveying a Sunlit Plain'

The Werribee River is one of those hidden-gems that deserves more acclaim than it sometimes receives. In some parts of Melbourne's outer-west one could be forgiven for forgetting that this treasure is there - winding its way quietly through the ever-expanding hustle and bustle of Wyndham. But for those who seek it out - it never fails to provide refreshment, inspiration and sanctuary. I was quite surprised to discover the stunning views from atop 'The Cliffs' looking down across the river and the plains beyond not too far from the Werribee Mansion - especially considering I had lived in the area for over twenty years! The view brought to mind scenes from 'The Lord of the Rings' films and I couldn't help but think of the early explorers and pioneers looking out and surveying the land. I took a number of photos that day and used one of them to base this chalk pastel drawing on. I named my artwork 'Surveying a Sunlit Plain' to reflect that pioneering spirit and the joy of a sunlit day. May you be refreshed by this artwork and may it transport you to pleasant, sunlit places.
