Newgrange Stones Mousepad

Older than the pyramids, Ireland's ancient past is represented by Newgrange at Bru na Boinne. The huge tomb or tumulus has a stone passageway that extends into a huge mound covered in grass and stones. The white quartz interspersed with granite boulders makes an interesting design among the many megalithic stones carved with Neolithic symbols. At the winter solstice a miracle of ancient astronomy occurs when the rising sun enters a window box, lights up the long passageway and highlights the ancient carved spirals in the centre of the monument. 5,000 years of ancient history comes alive at Newgrange every December in a spectacular display of ancient wisdom and art. It is no wonder that Newgrange is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
