I was gobsmacked after I read the 5-page May 24, 2024 FDA report on December 13, 2024 after social media posts regarding the safety of 3-nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP), marketed as Bovaer: https://www.fda.gov/media/178913/download Noteable quotes: "Based on the information provided in your letter, Bovaer® 10 is an article (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of an animal, and therefore it is a drug." And the "Warning: Not for human use. Caution should be exercised when handling this product. 3-nitrooxypropanol may damage male fertility and reproductive organs, is potentially harmful when inhaled, and is a skin and eye irritant." My uncle was an awarded chemist and so I often consult with the PubChem site: https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/3-Nitrooxypropanol#section=GHS-Classification SHOCKED to see FOUR Pictograms and SIGNAL: Danger. GHS Hazard Statements: H242 (50%): Heating may cause a fire [Danger Self-reactive substances and mixtures; Organic peroxides] H302 (75%): Harmful if swallowed [Warning Acute toxicity, oral] H315 (75%): Causes skin irritation [Warning Skin corrosion/irritation] H318 (50%): Causes serious eye damage [Danger Serious eye damage/eye irritation] H319 (25%): Causes serious eye irritation [Warning Serious eye damage/eye irritation] H335 (25%): May cause respiratory irritation [Warning Specific target organ toxicity, single exposure; Respiratory tract irritation] H361 (50%): Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child [Warning Reproductive toxicity] As a public service (and I buy from local farms), I felt a sticker might be useful for farmers who refuse to use this drug on their cattle and / or farm.
