“So when she had rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and wept till she was tired, she set out on her way and walked many, many days till she came to a lofty crag.” Dont you just love the black and white ink contrasts and charcoal textures on the aged paper? The ink illustration is from the first edition of “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” (1914) and the story of the same title by the phenomenal Danish artist - Kay Nielsen.
To honour the story’s authenticity, the original caption from the fairytale is found on the back of the postcard. ( I read every story and book I share illustrations from.)
