This antique octopus illustration is a beautiful 19th century book illustration. Octopuses are cephalopods, with eight arms or tentacles and suction cups along its tentacles. It has a large head and two eyes. The octopuses are very intelligent creatures, capable of solving mazes and puzzles and proving they have long and short term memory. The Octopus lives in many regions of the ocean including coral reefs. The 54th plate from Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904).
