ABOUT THE ART Boat Ride by Kumkapı in Constantinople by Ivan Aivazovsky is a Russian Romantic-era masterpiece showing the busy harbour life of Kumkapı, a historic quarter on the European side of Istanbul. Aivazovsky first visited Constantinople in 1845 as the official artist of the Russian Naval fleet, and the city completely captivated him.
