Pashtunistan or Pakhtunistan (Pashto: پښتونستان), meaning the "land of Pashtuns" or "land of Pakhtuns", is a modern term used for the historical region inhabited by the native Pashtun (Pakhtun people) since at least the 1st millennium BC. Possibly since at least the 3rd century AD and onward, the region was mostly recognised as Afghanistan and by the people in the Indian subcontinent as Pathanistan.
