Seaham Sea Glass is legendary. From humble beginnings, the entrepreneur John Candlish bought the existing tiny Seaham Bottleworks, and turned it into a state of the art glass/bottle manufacturing facility, with gas powered kilns and it's own ships to transport bottles to London for export around the world. Being the largest facility in Europe meant a lot of waste glass, much of which was dumped into the sea, then later dredged and dumped offshore where, after a century of sea tumbling, it reappears, completely randomly, on the beach at Seaham. Highly sought after by collectors for it's colours, the smoothness and shape created by the North Sea, and the remarkable patterns of colours - much of which was made by accident, or by apprentices. This shop is a celebration of this glass, with some other humorous items too, and is being developed in parallel to my new PeblsArt store that focuses on the more artistic images of sea glass that i have accumulated.
