Pennsylvania State Bird: Ruffed Grouse Postcard

The ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus) is the official state bird of Pennsylvania. These gamebirds are intricately patterned with dark bars and spots on either a reddish-brown or grayish plumage making them difficult to see. Their fan-shaped tails are marked by a broad, dark band near the tip, and they have a triangular crest on their head.
