POKER DOGS: A BOLD BLUFF - In 1903 C. M. Coolidge was commissioned to produce 16 paintings for the advertising firm of Brown & Bigelow. All the paintings in the series feature dogs performing human activities. His poker playing dogs are the most famous, but he also painted dogs on a commuter train and in a ballpark. This piece is called "A Bold Bluff." Here were have a St. Bernard with a weak hand making a very bold bluff at the poker table while the other dogs look on! The painting is actually Part 1 of a 2 Part painting of a poker game!
