    This 19th century bridge which featured in An American in Paris is totally covered in padlocks representing a promise of love. The accordion player plays a soulful melody for the lovers who come to place a lock to represent their lasting love. The lock is fixed to the bridge and the key tossed into the waters of the River Seine below. A large section of this bridge recently collapsed into the River Seine, no longer able to support the weight of all the padlocks. Now, The Paris Council has made a determination to remove all of the locks as the combined weight is putting the bridge at risk.
