All aboard! This black-and-white action photo shows the Pennsylvania Railroad's luxurious "Afternoon Congressional" train enroute from Washington, D.C., to New York's Penn Station, in 1952. The coaches are Budd Co.'s latest: streamlined and "shot-welded" and hauled by the Pennsy's best electric locomotive, the legendary "GG-1". Today, Amtrak operates the same route and modern equipment does it an hour faster, but no trains were more comfortable or luxurious than the Congressionals for their daylight run.

I created this postcard for three audiences: Train fans, lovers of Americana, and fans of "Deco" era design. This 1952 public-domain shot shows an express train of its time with brand-new "streamlined" coaches, hauled by the legendary 1930's GG-1 locomotive designed by Raymond Lowey. I've had positive reactions from all three camps -- all aboard! Good, not super--a little astigmatic blurring but that's the best I could do.
