The Fitting Room is a special painting I created in the Neo-Impressionistic style of Pointillism. I chose to paint it in this style because it reminds me of Degas' ballerinas, it conveys movement and captures a fleeting moment in space and time when my daughters were trying on prom dresses! It is personal, but, it also has a modern "twist" that I liked. Even though it harkens to Old Masters, it has inclusion of me, the proud mum, in the reflections taking a photo with my cell phone (a "modern twist").. Monet would "leach" his paints, that is, put them on heavy fabric or paper to absorb the oil, so that he could work with heavy body pigment. I saved time and got a similar effect by adding a cold wax medium to my paint to achieve the heavy body effect. It also shortened the dry time, and I was able to layer paint with reckless abandon without any adherence issues.
