This is the traditional orthodox Easter icon, depicting the spiritual meaning behind the event of the Resurrection. Christ enters Hades after He has resurrected and liberates Adam and Eve from their spiritual death, giving their souls eternal life. The Saviour is flanked by Old Testament Prophets who had predicted the coming of the Messiah. They are now looking upon the scene and are rejoicing for the salvation of humanity.
