Rimbaud T-Shirt

Jean Nicolas Arthur Rimbaud (1854 – 1891), French poet and adventurer, who stopped writing verse at the age of 21, became after his early death an inextricable myth in French world of poetry and culture. His impact on the Surrealist movement has been widely acknowledged, and a host of poets, from André Breton to André Freynaud, have recognised their indebtedness to Rimbaud’s vision and technique. He was the enfant terrible of French poetry in the second half of the nineteenth century and a major figure in symbolism. This portrait of Arthur Rimbaud when he was seventeen is a digitally modified version of the photograph taken by Étienne Carjat in c.1872. The original image file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighbouring rights.
