Rodeo time often features the exciting event of bull riding or bronc riding, where a cowboy attempts to stay on a bucking horse or bull for a specified time period. In bronc riding, the cowboy must stay on a bucking horse for eight seconds while holding onto a rein attached to the horse's halter. The horse is equipped with a special saddle that has no horn, so the cowboy must use his balance and his spurs to stay on the horse.
