Romeo and Juliet are characters from the famous tragedy written by William Shakespeare. In this scene, Romeo has just climbed up to Juliet's balcony, and he is sitting on the ledge as Juliet stands beside him. The couple are kissing amorously. It is a classic image of romantic love. The original artwork was painted by Frank Dicksee in 1884.
