Rossetti | Salutation of Beatrice | Dante CC0002 Mouse Mat

Mousepad inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti's painting "Salutation of Beatrice", completed between 1880 and 1882. Rossetti was deeply interested in the works of his namesake, Dante Alighieri (1265–1321). This painting illustrates a work titled "Vita Nuova," a collection of poems and prose that reflects on Dante’s unrequited love for Beatrice. The figure of Beatrice (modeled after Jane Morris) dominates the painting, but in the background you can see Dante Alighieri himself, comforted by the red-robed figure of Love. Dante Gabriel Rossetti also created a free translation of "Vita Nuova." The following verse is often associated with the painting: "My lady looks so gentle and so pure / When yielding salutation by the way / That the tongue trembles and has naught to say / And the eyes, which fain would see, may not endure."
